The series started in Shanghai during a six-month stay in China, and it is growing since then with photographs in other cities in the world, such as in Hong Kong, New York, Venice and Istanbul.
Quasi blind, I go in search of images and I grope in the dark. The visualization of the environment needs time. What brings things to light is a kind of 'prosthetic Photography', for the image can only be composed through direct control by means of digital image display.
I’m standing on the lookout in the dark photographing apparently nothing, which seems strange to passersby, they turn around to me and look into the darkness with a questioning look.
People are a central theme in the images. Their naturalness is due to their familiar surroundings and to the circumambient darkness. The darkness seems to cast a veil of protection or camouflage over them. It is important for me to work out this naturalness of the person.
I linger a long time in one place, observing architecture, light, people, the change of illumination and light color caused by passing cars or blinking, iridescent neon signs. Here I record any change seismographically with the camera. For me this is a constant repetition in which the difference of time enrolls.
Over time, the place becomes a space of time, he magically transforms. The transformation is inscribed in the image, which is somehow a compression of time.
The broad color spectrum of the artificial light paints the pictures. Image processing is not required, for my main focus is on the authenticity of the place and on the emergence of the already existing over time. Everything can grow with time and develop refulgence over time.
